Northern Cardinal

“This is one of the male cardinals that lives in my backyard,” says photographer Leslie Leathers. “I have two pairs, or ‘couples’ that have been here for several years, and they have had babies every spring.” Arizona is one of the three western states where Cardinals make their home. They can be found year-round in Sabino Canyon, where they have plenty of access to food, water, cover, and nesting sites. Cardinals can reproduce from one to four times per season.
