Devon Sanner (longtime chef for Janos Wilder) and Mat Cable (owner of Fresco Pizzeria, Dante’s Fire and First We Eat Catering and Confections)

Two Tucson natives joined forces to create a restaurant concept that is a cross-cultural blending of Sonoran cuisine and Italian fare.

Devon Sanner (longtime chef for Janos Wilder) and Mat Cable (owner of Fresco Pizzeria, Dante’s Fire and First We Eat Catering and Confections) recently announced the opening of their new restaurant, Zio Peppe (which means Uncle Joe). Cable’s uncle Joe Sottosanti opened Tucson’s first Sicilian pizzeria nearly 50 years ago. Vintage photos are prominently displayed in the restaurant’s interior. The dining area includes a stone hearth pizza oven.

One item on the new menu is Zio Peppe’s Chile Con Queso. The sauce combines chile components and queso Oaxaca with Italian staples Parmigiano Reggiano and mascarpone. This sauce is perfect for dipping house-baked bread or tortilla chips.
