Legendary American singer-songwriter Don Mclean is best known for “American Pie,” an RIAA “Song of the Century,” which skyrocketed to #1 in 1972. The album of the same name also topped the Billboard Charts. Additionally, both the song and the album shot up the charts in the UK, establishing Don as an international star. Other notable hit records among his many recordings include “Vincent (Starry Starry Night).” “And I Love You So,” “Castles in the Air” and “Crying.”
Don has amassed over 40 gold and platinum records worldwide and, in 2004, was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame. His songs have been recorded by artists from every musical genre, most notably Madonna’s No 1 recording of “American Pie” in 2000 and George Michael’s version of “The Grave” in 2003, sung in protest of the Iraq War.
In 2012 Don was awarded the BBC Folk music lifetime Achievement Award and saw the release of “American Troubadour” on CD and DVD and the worldwide broadcast of the documentary of this name, charting Don’s life and career.
Joining Don is his very special guest, AL Stewart, multi-platinum British Folk-Rock Singer-Songwriter. Stewart came to stardom as part of the legendary British folk revival in the sixties and seventies and developed his own unique style of combining folk-rock songs with delicately woven tales of great characters and events from history.
He is perhaps best known for his hit “Year of the Cat” from the platinum album of the same name and the platinum follow-up album, “Time Passages” with both titles reaching #1 on the singles charts. His career spans over four decades and includes 19 studio albums, marking him as a key figure in British Music. Other hit records include “On the Border” and “Nostradamus.”
