Allyson Solomon / Executive Director of Metropolitan Pima Alliance
Q: Where were you born?
In sunny Redondo Beach, California
Q: How did you become interested in your career field?
I realized while in college, serving in the student government as
part of the Arizona Students Association, lobbying for student
rights, that I enjoyed working on public policy and interfacing
with governing boards and elected officials. I appreciated that my
efforts had a direct and positive impact on the students and their
ability to affordably attend one of Arizona’s state universities.
Q: What is the biggest challenge of your job?
As the Executive Director for a non-profit representing the land
use and development industry, whose goal is to foster collaboration
and bridge the gap between the public and private sector, my
biggest challenge is creating a forum for constructive and solution-
oriented dialogue. This is often very difficult because most
of the policy issues I work on are very public and people on both
sides of the issues have very strong feelings one way or another.
Q: What is the greatest reward of your job?
There are so many to choose from, but I would have to say seeing
the positive outcomes that the impact policy I have worked on has
created, such as the streetcar line and the Infill Incentive District,
both major drivers in the revitalization of downtown Tucson. I get
to see tangible results for my hard work and it is truly gratifying.
Q: Do you have any family members in Tucson?
Yes, my mom, dad and younger brother
Q: Where would you most like to vacation next — and why?
Portugal. I’m already planning a trip there with a girlfriend for
when we are able to safely travel again. Portugal has always been
on my list of places to travel because of the scenery, culture and,
of course, port wine!
Q: What was the last book you read, and what did you enjoy
the most about it?
The Guest List — it was a suspense novel, and the author seamlessly
wove in all of the character connections and kept you guessing
whom was the culprit.
Q: When you have the time, what is your favorite TV show to
I love to cook. It is my favorite hobby, so when I do watch TV, I
mostly watch food shows.
Q: What’s your favorite food indulgence?
Frost gelato. I could eat it for every single meal, every single day.
Q: In 20 words or less, describe your perfect day.
Big beach bash, with all of my friends and family there, and of
course all the gelato I could eat.
