Mingei is a Japanese folk art movement which arose in the 1920s. It takes its inspiration from the art and beauty in items created by average people that are practical and used in daily life. Tucson's only authentic Japanese gardens inaugurates a new, permanent exhibition -- "Mingei: Old Japan on Hand" -- that celebrates nameless makers of traditional everyday objects of wood, bamboo, stone, ceramics, paper, textiles, and lacquer. Although humble, they are nonetheless of value, because they preserve the human touch in an era of mass production.
Price : Free with Gardens admission: $9 adults, $8 65+, $7 student/military, $5 ages 3-15, under 2 free.
